Textile Society 33rd Annual Conference

The theme for this years conference was Textiles and Architecture. The keynote speaker was Professor Alice Kettle. Her talk has made me think more about the place and the environment of where my work belongs. Up to this point in my degree, I have always responded to a brief that has been based around process and materials. Knowing the place first in my opion is a far easy starting point, rather than trying to find an environment that fits your work. Jane Scott a contructed textiles lecturer from the University of Leeds, discussed her work with knit and the concept of 'Passive response materials'.

Collaboration Feedback

Collaboration Feedback from Laban Dancer The unit X project is about collaborating outside of the Art School. I could not have wished for a better response from one of the dancer's at Laban who worked with me and gave a beautiful and exciting response to my work. See below the feedback from Cathy, a passionate performer and fellow collaborator. Cathy Burfield I found out about Annie's project via the Trinity Laban email feed. As a devoted student of Laban's ideas and methods I was immediately attracted to her project. I have been fascinated to hear of her own unique discovery and exploration into Laban's work; Someone from such a different entry point from mine able to assimilate and discuss his complex theories then embody them within a structure. The meeting of the structure in dance was exciting and exploratory.....something that I am sure Laban himself would have approved of. As her collaborators, having given us her contribution,...

For this unit X, I intend to continue where I left off with digital print and the design of Art Scarves. I am going to approach companies who's market is aimed at the mature woman and use seasonal colour and analysis as their unique selling point. I am hoping to gain a student placement in the hope of designing 4 seasonal scarves with pattern to add to their collection. I would like to continue to develop my skills with digital Print and explore the use of illustrator and photo shop to improve the images I create. I also intend to using the laser cutter to produce negative images that can be transferred onto screen prints to produce hand printed designs.
